Water: San Francisco tap water
Grain: 8 lb. British pale
8 oz. British amber
12 oz. British crystal 50-60L
1 oz. British black patent
4 oz. Torrified wheat
Mash: 75% efficiency
mash @ 152°F for 120 minutes°
mash out @ 170°F for 20 minutes
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.044 6 gallons
irish moss with 15 minutes left
Hops: .5 oz. Challenger (8.5% AA, 60 min.)
.75 oz. Saaz (3.75% AA, 30 min.)
.75 oz. Saaz (aroma)
Yeast: WLP001 California
Log: Primary fermentation 6 days @ 68F
Secondary 14 days @ 68 F
Tasting: It's a bit like Fat Tire, except with a little more toasted malt character. The Saaz could easily have been Willamette or something else, the hop flavor is mostly overshadowed by the malt (which is what I was aiming for.)
Possibly reduce the amber malt to 6 ounces or even 4 if you want a more subdued toasty flavor.
