The Beer Recipator

Q6

A slight modification to a recipe I have been fine-tuning. Going a little more or a little less on the extract has been OK, the key is the balance of the malt and grain with lots of finishing hops.

Beer: Q6 Style: American Pale Ale
Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
12 HCU (~8 SRM)
Bitterness: 73 IBU
OG: 1.056 FG: 1.008
Alcohol: 6.2% v/v (4.8% w/w)
Water: I use Bull Run still (portland, OR tap water) and just boil, no treatment.
Grain: 8 oz. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
8 oz. American crystal 60L
Steep: I steep the grains in hot water for a while before boiling, and even left them in once after starting the boil, pulling them out part way through. Seems ok either way.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.053 5.25 gallons
4 lb. Light malt extract
3 lb. Pilsen Light
Hops: 1.0 oz. Amarillo (7.1% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Northern Brewer (8.5% AA, 40 min.)
1.0 oz. Amarillo (7.1% AA, 20 min.)
2.0 oz. Amarillo (7.1% AA, 5 min.)
Yeast: WyEast American Ale 1056 smack pack.
Log: Ferments about two weeks.
Carbonation: Prime bottles with cooper drops and/or force carbonate to 2.0 to 2.5.
Tasting: I love Amarillo hops. Lots of citrus aroma. Could be stronger, but I like a light refreshing hoppy beer.
