Opening Day Ale

Great beer to crack open on opening day of the baseball season. Better brew a few batches if you want it to last through the World Series.

Beer: Opening Day Ale Style: American Pale Ale
Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
19 HCU (~11 SRM)
Bitterness: 39 IBU
OG: 1.074 FG: 1.030
Alcohol: 5.7% v/v (4.4% w/w)
Grain: .5 lb. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
1 lb. American crystal 40L
Steep: Steep specialty grains at 165 for 30 minutes
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.062 6 gallons
2 lb. Light dry malt extract
1 lb. Wheat extract
6 lb. Light malt extract
Add malt and wheat extracts and Perle hops and boil for 30 minutes. Add Willamette and boil for an additional 30 minutes. Add 1 ounce of Mt. Hood and boil for 5 minutes.
Hops: 1.25 oz. Perle (8% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Willamette (5% AA, 30 min.)
2 oz. Mt. Hood (aroma)
Yeast: Wyeast 1332
Log: Transfer to secondary fermenter after primary fermentation is complete. Add 1 more ounce of Mt. Hood and let finish fermenting.
