Apricot Pale Ale

The full-extract version of this (1/2 light DME and 1/2 wheat DME)
was a hit with friends but I found it a bit thin. I am going to do a
mash to add some malt character to the beer. This will also give me
a chance to try batch-sparging which I can only do with a reduced
grain-bill in my 5 gallon Gott cooler (because I need the room for
all the extra water). Hence, the partial-mash. This one will
be a little hoppier than the last - again personal preference.

Brewer: Piscassic River Brewing Email: -
Beer: Apricot Pale Ale Style: American Pale Ale
Type: Partial mash Size: 5.5 gallons
Color:
7 HCU (~6 SRM)
Bitterness: 32 IBU
OG: 1.050 FG: 1.012
Alcohol: 4.9% v/v (3.9% w/w)
Grain: 5 lb. 2-row Pale
1 lb. Crystal 20L
Mash: 85% efficiency
Single-infusion mash at 152°F (60 min.)
Batch sparge to 7 gal in kettle
Boil: 75 minutes SG 1.040 7 gallons
2 lb. Wheat DME (60 min.)
1 tbsp. Irish Moss (15 min.)
Hops: 2 oz. Cascade (first-wort hop) (6.9% AA, 20 min.)
Yeast: Danstar Nottingham
Log: 6/27: Tried batch sparging for the first time and ended up with ~85%
efficiency so I overshot my boil OG. No big deal. Miscalculated
evaporation on the boil so I ended up with more wort than planned.
No big deal.
7/10: Ready to rack to secondary after almost two weeks (was on
vacation). Will add 4 oz. apricot flavoring and secondary for one
week then bottle.
7/16: OK, finally getting around to racking to the secondary.
Carbonation: Bottle carbonate (1-2 weeks w/ primetabs)
