Beer: EZ IPA Style: India Pale Ale
Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
12 HCU (~8 SRM)
Bitterness: 66 IBU
OG: 1.057 FG: 1.010
Alcohol: 6.0% v/v (4.7% w/w)
Water: Bottled spring water from supermarket.
Grain: 1 lb. American crystal 20L
Steep: Steep crystal in 150-170°F water for 30 min. Remove before boil.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.081 3.5 gallons
6 lb. Light dry malt extract
Irish Moss @ 15 min till end of boil.
Hops: 1 oz. Chinook (11.3% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Chinook (11.3% AA, 40 min.)
1 oz. Cascade (6.2% AA, 15 min.)
1 oz. Cascade (6.2% AA, 5 min.)
Yeast: White Labs WLP001-California Ale
Log: Primary ferment for 4 days to a week. Rack to secondary for another week. Bottle with 3/4 cup corn sugar boiled in 16oz water. Bottle condition for at least a week. Better after a month of smoothing and blending.
Tasting: An IPA so simple a trained monkey could make it. A touch of sweetness. A touch more bitterness. Taste just right. Some folks do not care for Chinook, but this is OK with one ounce doses.
