Ale for the Masses

General beer for the folks who don't like dark beer.

Beer: Ale for the Masses Style: American Amber Ale
Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
9 HCU (~7 SRM)
Bitterness: 27 IBU
OG: 1.050 FG: 1.013
Alcohol: 4.8% v/v (3.8% w/w)
Grain: 1 lb. American 2-row
0.5 lb. American victory
0.5 lb. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
2 lb. Flaked corn
Steep: Bring water to 160°-170° and add grain.
Keep mixture at 150° for 1 hour.
Sparge grain with hot water.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.050 5 gallons
5 lb. Light malt extract
6 oz. Corn sugar
1/2 tsp irish moss
1/4 tsp of yeast nutrient at last 5 minutes of boil.
(The nutrient is not required. However, it always speeds up my yeast
cycle in my test trials.)
Hops: 1.5 oz. Hallertauer (4.25% AA, 60 min.)
0.5 oz. Tettnanger (4.5% AA, 10 min.)
Yeast: White Labs - German Ale
Log: Primary - 9 days
Secondary - 12 days
Bottling - as soon I could drink it.
Carbonation: Added 1 cup of corn sugar for bottling.
