Maris Otter Oatmeal Stout #1

Maris Otter malt can hold a lot of roasted
barley. 1.5 lbs may seem like a lot, but
even at bottling it was not as roasty as
you would think.

Grain: 9 lb. 0 oz. Maris Otter (Muntons)
2 oz. Crystal 20L (leftover from another recipie)
1 lb. 8 oz. Roasted barley
1 lb. Flaked barley
1 lb. Rolled oats
Mash: 72% efficiency
Single Infusion mash 1.1 qt/lb, stabilize at 154°F
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.044 7.5 gallons
Hops: 2 oz. Challenger (6.6% AA, 60 min.)
Yeast: 3 packages of Danstar London Dry
Log: Brewed on 2/15/00

Bottled on 2/21/00,
Carbonation: Primed with 1/4-1/3 cup corn sugar at bottling
Tasting: the tasting notes reflect tasting at bottling

Silky smooth texture, nice roasted flavor, with some caramel notes.
Hops not overpowering, nice balance
