Liquid Asphalt

This is my first batch ever so it could be crap.

Beer: Liquid Asphalt Style: Chocolate Stout
Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
70 HCU (~28 SRM)
Bitterness: 57 IBU
OG: 1.062 FG: 1.018
Alcohol: 5.6% v/v (4.4% w/w)
Water: Tap water
Grain: .50 lb. American crystal 120L
.25 lb. British chocolate
.25 lb. Roasted barley
Steep: Steeped the grains while it was first cold water until it reached 150° then I let uit steep for an additional 20 minutes or so.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.103 3 gallons
8 lb. Light malt extract
I added some star anise, nutmeg, honey, cocoa and some vanilla extract to the mix. I didn't like the star anise smell..so I took it out after 5 minutes. but who knows maybe it will make this be great beer (yeah right)
Hops: 1 oz. Nugget (12% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Northern Brewer (8.5% AA, 45 min.)
1 oz. Northern Brewer (8.5% AA, 15 min.)
Yeast: Munton's Dry Ale yeast pitched at 70°
Log: 12/15/02 Brewed
Carbonation: 3/4 C of corn sugar to prime
Tasting: I tasted the wort and it tasted like shit, (too bitter) I hope it mellows a bit after it ferments. I think I chose the wrong hops..oh well, its all for fun anyway. Next batch will be better.
