Stone Jug Irish Stout

Type: Partial mash Size: 5.5 gallons
Color:
125 HCU (~41 SRM)
Bitterness: 34 IBU
OG: 1.053 FG: 1.010
Alcohol: 5.6% v/v (4.4% w/w)
Water: Just tap water. Our water is spring fed. Just hard enough.
Grain: 2 lb. American crystal 20L
4 oz. American black patent
8 oz. Roasted barley
Mash: 70% efficiency
Steeped grains in 2 gallons 170° water for 70 minutes . Sparged with 3 gallons 170° water. Added water to get 6.5 gallons.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.045 6.5 gallons
5 lb. Dark malt extract
1 lb. Dark dry malt extract
Added hops as scheduled. Add 1 tsp. Irish moss last 10 minutes of boil.
Hops: .75 oz. Northern Brewer (8.5% AA, 60 min.)
.5 oz. Kent Goldings (5% AA, 30 min.)
.5 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 15 min.)
Yeast: Irish Ale Yeast.
Log: Primary for 7 days @ 65° . Racked to glass carboy for 3 days, then to plastic for 3 days all @ 65° . Primed with 5oz. corn sugar. Bottled for 7 days before chilling.
Carbonation: 5 oz. priming (corn) sugar.
Tasting: Good taste, not too bitter, not too sweet. Nice chocolate after taste. Third time brewed and we all still enjoy it.
