Beer: Olde Reliable Style: English Old/Strong Ale
Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
57 HCU (~24 SRM)
Bitterness: 20 IBU
OG: 1.061 FG: 1.008
Alcohol: 6.9% v/v (5.4% w/w)
Water: I used plain grocery store bought spring water, and added Burton water salts.
Grain: 1 lb. British crystal 70-80L
4 oz. British chocolate
8 oz. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
Steep: Steep grains at 155 degrees for 30 min. Then discard the grains, add the extract, and bring to a boil.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.153 2 gallons
6.5 lb. Amber malt extract
1 lb. Honey
Add the honey at the last 5 minutes of the boil.
Hops: 1.5 oz. Northern Brewer (8.5% AA, 60 min.)
.5 oz. Willamette (5% AA, 30 min.)
.5 oz. Willamette (aroma)
Yeast: I repitched Wyeast 1728 from a batch of scotch ale.
Log: Like the style name implies. The older it gets, the better it gets.
Carbonation: 2.0 volumes Dried Malt Extract: 5.07 oz. for 5 gallons @ 65°F
