Brown Ale

Our first brew. We kept it simple and practiced cleaning procedures.

Beer: Brown Ale Style: English Brown
Type: Extract Size: 5 gallons
Color:
14 HCU (~9 SRM)
Bitterness: 13 IBU
OG: 1.044 FG: 1.008
Alcohol: 4.7% v/v (3.7% w/w)
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.074 3 gallons
2 lb. Light malt extract
4 lb. Amber malt extract
Add 1/4 tsp. Irish Moss for last 15 minutes.
Hops: 1 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 60 min.)
Yeast: Wyeast British Ale (# 1335)
Log: Ferment 16 days at room temp. Rack to secondary after 10 days.
Carbonation: Added 3/4 cup of corn sugar.
Tasting: Good malty flavor with very low bitterness. Very clean and smooth flavor with dry finish.
