Brewer: Mark Zamonski Email: zamonski@woh.rr.com

Beer: Amarillo Bitter Style: English Ordinary Bitter
Type: All grain Size: 10 gallons
Color:
13 HCU (~9 SRM)
Bitterness: 33 IBU
OG: 1.044 FG: 1.012
Alcohol: 4.2% v/v (3.3% w/w)

Grain: 14 lb. American 6-row
1 lb. Belgian biscuit
2 lb. American crystal 40L
Mash: 75% efficiency
I have a HERMS type recirculating mash system which produced an efficiency well over 80% in this case, since my actual collection was about 10.5 gallons.
In addition to the recirculating system, I did 2- 4gallon batch sparges to rinse the grain.
On a side note, the recirculating mash, batch sparging, and counterflow wort chilling allowed me to do the entire brew in 3 1/2 hours (from mash-in to pitching yeast).
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.037 12 gallons
Hops: 1 oz. Amarillo (9.6% AA, 60 min.)
.5 oz. Amarillo (9.6% AA, 30 min.)
1 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 30 min.)
Yeast: safale us-56 dry ale yeaat
Log: 5 OCT 2006
fermenting at 68 degF
another 1/4 oz amarillo after the boil for aroma
Carbonation: 75/25 nitrogen/co2 at 48 psi
Tasting: OG was 1.049. My efficiency was probably over 80%. A little strong for this style... Oops.
