Stars & Stripes Ale

Nice soft ale with just the right hop bitterness
to malt sweetness ratio. Enjoy!

Beer: Stars & Stripes Ale Style: American Pale Ale
Type: All grain Size: 5.50 gallons
Color:
12 HCU (~8 SRM)
Bitterness: 22 IBU
OG: 1.044 FG: 1.007
Alcohol: 4.7% v/v (3.7% w/w)
Water: Added 1/16 tsp CaCl2 & 1 tsp Gypsum to boil water.
Grain: 2 lb. British pale
1 lb. 4 oz. American Munich
5 lb. British mild
8 oz. American crystal 60L
4 oz. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
4 oz. Flaked oats
4 oz. Flaked wheat
Mash: 70% efficiency
Single temp mash @ 150ºF for 60 minutes.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.036 6.75 gallons
Irish moss last 15 minutes of boil.
Hops: 1.0 oz. Kent Goldings (5.1% AA, 60 min.)
.50 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 45 min.)
Yeast: Use any european ale yeast w/starter. I like
London & British Wyeast.
Log: Ferment as close to 67ºF, but higher temps up to 73ºF
shouldn't make much difference.
Carbonation: 2.6 volumes Corn Sugar: 4.74 oz. for 5.00 gallons @ 70°F
Let this brew age for three weeks before drinking.
Tasting: Smoooooooth & Creamy! The oats and wheat tend to leave
it a bit cloudy, but not a crucial factor.
