Loco Double IPA

This is a double IPA using only high alpha/low co-humulone hops for a smoother bitterness.

24 HCU (~13 SRM)
Bitterness: 101 IBU
OG: 1.093 FG: 1.025
Alcohol: 8.8% v/v (6.9% w/w)
Water: Add 2 tsp Gypsum to sparge water
Grain: 18 lb. 3 oz. American 2-row
2 lb. 10 oz. American Munich
1 lb. 3 oz. American victory
1 lb. Belgian biscuit
1 lb. American crystal 20L
1 lb. American crystal 60L
1 lb. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
8 oz. Rice Hulls
Mash: 75% efficiency
Mash at 145°F for 30 min, then ramp up to 158°F with HERMS coil.
Hold for 20 min, then raise to Mashout.
Boil: 90 minutes SG 1.076 11 gallons
3 lb. Light dry malt extract
Whirlfloc tabs (2) at 15 min.
Hops: 1.4 oz. Warrior (17.7% AA, 75 min.)
1.4 oz. Amarillo (9.7% AA, 75 min.)
0.6 oz. Warrior (17.7% AA, 30 min.)
0.6 oz. Amarillo (9.7% AA, 30 min.)
1 oz. Warrior (17.7% AA, 15 min.)
1 oz. Amarillo (9.7% AA, 15 min.)
1 oz. Warrior (aroma)
1 oz. Amarillo (aroma)
Yeast: Starter of WL Super High Gravity Yeast
Log: Brewed 2/22/03
5 gallons bound for Temecula
Carbonation: Force Carbonate to 2.4 volumes
Tasting: Very well received at The Southern CA Homebrewers Festival. It was the 3rd keg to drain at Pacific Gravity. I like it too.
