Bluberry P.D. Ale

A very fruity flavor with a hint of esters from the trappist yeast.
A definite winner with the women.

Beer: Bluberry P.D. Ale Style: American Amber Ale
Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
10 HCU (~7 SRM)
Bitterness: 17 IBU
OG: 1.057 FG: 1.010
Alcohol: 6.1% v/v (4.8% w/w)
Water: 1/2 tsp Gypsum at boiling
Grain: 1 lb. Gambrinus Honey Malt
0.5 lb. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
Steep: Bring water to 180°F and let grain steep for 30 minutes
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.071 4 gallons
4 lb. Light malt extract
2.2 lb. Rice extract
1. lb. Honey
1 tsp Irish Moss 10 minutes before end of boil.
1/2 tsp Wyeast Yeast Nutrient (Not alot of malt in this recipe)
Hops: 1 oz. Hallertauer (4.25% AA, 60 min.)
.5 oz. Kent Goldings (5% AA, 10 min.)
0.1 oz. Tettnanger (4.5% AA, 10 min.)
.5 oz. Kent Goldings (aroma)
Yeast: White Labs Trappist Ale Yeast
Log: After 5 days in primary, rack to secondary and add 3lb can of blueberry puree(Oregon brand)
Add 4 oz bottle of blueberry flavor at bottling.

(The added bluberries will boost alcohol content to around 6.9-7.1%)
Carbonation: 3/4 cup of corn sugar
Tasting: The Oregon puree did not really add any blue color. It is still a nice amber color.
As it ages, the blueberry flavor becomes more prevalent.
