This is an update of a recipe I have used for years. This is the first time I have made any changes. I used amber in place of light DME. Also changed to Hallertauer for aroma from Tettnanger. Also starting using whole hops a little while ago.. Try it you can really tast and smell the diff.

Type: Partial mash Size: 5 gallons
Color:
59 HCU (~25 SRM)
Bitterness: 30 IBU
OG: 1.081 FG: 1.015
Alcohol: 8.5% v/v (6.6% w/w)
Grain: 1.5 lb. American crystal 20L
.5 lb. American chocolate
Mash: 80% efficiency
Steep grain at 155 for 30 mins in 2 gallans of water and strain into brew pot.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.058 7 gallons
7 lb. Light malt extract
2 lb. Amber dry malt extract
Hops: 1 oz. Cascade (6% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Hallertauer (4.25% AA, 30 min.)
1 oz. Hallertauer (aroma)
Yeast: White Labs German Lager WLP830
