Just Helles

This is a partial mash adaptation of a local brew masters award winning recipe. The mash efficiency may seem high, but this is what I continually get with my partial mashes. If I leave it at 70% I wind up 10pts high on the OG.

Type: Partial mash Size: 5.25 gallons
Color:
4 HCU (~4 SRM)
Bitterness: 19 IBU
OG: 1.048 FG: 1.012
Alcohol: 4.6% v/v (3.6% w/w)
Water: 1 tsp gypsum, 2 g salt, 5 g epsom salts
Grain: 5.5 lb. German Pilsner
.25 lb. German Munich
.25 lb. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
Mash: 85% efficiency
mash for 60 min @ 152-158° F, add heat to mash-out @ 175° F for 10 min, batch sparge with 3 gallons of 170° F water
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.063 4 gallons
1.3 lb. Light dry malt extract
irish moss last 10 min.
Hops: 1 oz. Tettnanger (4.5% AA, 60 min.)
.5 oz. Tettnanger (4.5% AA, 30 min.)
.5 oz. Tettnanger (4.5% AA, 1 min.)
Yeast: Southern German Lager Yeast
