Water: Denver municipal tap water through and through.
Grain: 9.50 lb. German Pilsner
6 oz. German Munich
4 oz. British Carastan light
Mash: 50% efficiency
Sparged with 3 gallons following initial drain of 2 gallons. First attempt at all grain mash. Separated first 2 gallons wort from 3 gallon Sparge wort and did two boils. 3 gallons had all hops additions, less maltiness. 2 gallons had lots of malt. Hoping for better hop utilization using my small stock pots. (I am a bit of a beginner still)
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.039 5.5 gallons
8 oz. Light dry malt extract
Forgot Irish Moss. 8 oz malt dextrine added to boil.
@60min: 1oz Iowa grown, dried Brewers Gold
@60min: 1oz Pelleted Hallertau
@45min: 1oz Brewers Gold
@13min: .25oz Brewers Gold
Hops: 1. oz. Brewers Gold (8.5% AA, 60 min.)
1. oz. Hallertauer (4.25% AA, 60 min.)
1. oz. Brewers Gold (8.5% AA, 45 min.)
0.24 oz. Brewers Gold (8.5% AA, 15 min.)
Log: Brewed 11/26/11.
Began fermentation at 70 degrees, closeted and cooled to 60 by 24 hours mark. Currently still in active fermentation stage after nearly 8 days.
Will lager in root cellar until Christmas. Holiday tradition begun!
Carbonation: 2.4 volumes Keg: 17.3 psi @ 52°F
