Rod's Red Redux

A Hoppy Ale Inspired by Sacramento Brewing Company's Red Horse Ale
**Note that this recipe yeilds 18 gal wort- not 12**

Beer: Rod's Red Redux Style: American Brown
Type: All grain Size: 12 gallons
Color:
70 HCU (~28 SRM)
Bitterness: 68 IBU
OG: 1.087 FG: 1.014
Alcohol: 9.5% v/v (7.4% w/w)
Water: Plain water from tap - mine is on the hard side.
Grain: 30 lb. American 2-row
3 lb. Wheat malt
3 lb. American crystal 20L
3 lb. American crystal 75L
1 lb. Roasted barley
Mash: 72% efficiency
Mash in with 11.5 Gal at ~175° F to target ~155 Mash Temp.
Mix thoroughly and rest for 50 minutes.
Begin Recirculation and raise temp to 168° if possible.


Boil: 75 minutes SG 1.074 14.25 gallons
FWH with 2 oz of Columbus Hops
Add 1T Irish moss at last 30 min of Boil.

After bitter wort is chilled add ~6 gal(50% of wort vol)
to fermenters to increase volume/reduce Gravity. The intent is to
end up with 18 gal of 1.055 wort rather than 12 gal at 1.083
Hops: 2 oz. Columbus (15% AA, 60 min.)
2 oz. Cascade (5% AA, 20 min.)
1.5 oz. Cascade (5% AA, 15 min.)
1.5 oz. Cascade (5% AA, 10 min.)
1.5 oz. Cascade (aroma)
Yeast: White Labs CA Ale
