Duct Tape Brown Ale

The first time I made this, the fermentation was so violent I had to tape the cork in the carboy!

Beer: Duct Tape Brown Ale Style: American Brown
Type: Partial mash Size: 5 gallons
Color:
59 HCU (~25 SRM)
Bitterness: 28 IBU
OG: 1.062 FG: 1.014
Alcohol: 6.1% v/v (4.8% w/w)
Grain: 8 oz. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
8 oz. Belgian chocolate
Mash: 80% efficiency
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.103 3 gallons
4 lb. Light malt extract
3 lb. Light dry malt extract
Hops: .5 oz. Chinook (13.5% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Mt. Hood (5.6% AA, 30 min.)
1 oz. Mt. Hood (5.6% AA, 10 min.)
Yeast: Wyeast 1272 Americal II Ale
Log: Steep grains for 30-45 min at 180°F. Remove grains and bring to
boil. Add extracts while stiring constantly. Add Chinook hops,
wait 30 min then add first ounce of Mt Hood hops, 20 min later
add last ounce of Mt Hood. Cool and add to 2 gallons of cold
water in fermenter. Pitch yeast at 75°F. Rack to secondary
after 7-10 days and let it clarify (1-2 weeks).
Carbonation: If you bottle (too much work) use 3/4 cup corn sugar, otherwise
siphon off to keg and charge with CO2!
