Hurricane Mild 1

This was my first batch in a few years and I wanted to do something simple. It started out as an American amber and ended up a mild. The OG was just too low.

Brewer: Scott Parrish Email: -
Beer: Hurricane Mild 1 Style: English Light Mild
Type: Extract Size: 6 gallons
Color:
11 HCU (~8 SRM)
Bitterness: 14 IBU
OG: 1.041 FG: 1.012
Alcohol: 3.7% v/v (2.9% w/w)
Water: 6 gal store brand drinking water. Any water not in the 2.5 gal boil was boiled 20 mins and cooled to room temp before adding to fermenter.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.098 2.5 gallons
3.3 lb. Light malt extract
3.3 lb. Amber malt extract
Hops: .5 oz. Chinook (12% AA, 60 min.)
.25 oz. Hallertauer (4.25% AA, 30 min.)
.25 oz. Hallertauer (4.25% AA, 15 min.)
Yeast: WLP 051 with 1 qt starter.
Log: Primary 7 days 65 F (primary had a slight sulfer smell)
Secondary 15 days 65 F
Carbonation: Primed with 3/4 cup corn sugar dissolved in 1 cup boiling tap water (cooled to room temp before priming).
Tasting: The sulfer smell I was afraid of in the primary dissipated in the bottle. There is an herbal hop nose from the halletauer hops (very similar to sam adams) with little to no malt aroma. Taste is a nutty maltiness with a strong hallertauer flavor and moderate bitterness for the style. Mouthfeel is thin but not out of character for a mild. Overall, I'm happier with the finished beer now than I was when I tasted the green beer from the primary, but I was hoping to do better with this batch.
