Beer: What Ales You? Style: American Pale Ale
Type: Partial mash Size: 6 gallons
Color:
10 HCU (~7 SRM)
Bitterness: 37 IBU
OG: 1.056 FG: 1.011
Alcohol: 5.8% v/v (4.6% w/w)
Water: filtered tap. Full Wort boil.
Grain: 5 lb. British pale
1 lb. American Munich
1 lb. American crystal 20L
Mash: 70% efficiency
add grains to 3.5 gallons cold water. Slowly heat to 152°. hold for 40 min. sparge w 2 gallons 170° water. I got just under 5 gallons wort @ 1.034 SG (after correction for 122° temp at time of measurement
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.046 7.25 gallons
1 lb. Rice extract
3.3 lb. Light malt extract
Full wort boil
Added first hops at 180° F and brought to boil
1/2 TBS Irish moss last 15 min.
Add LME last 20 min.
Can substitute corn sugar in place of Rice solids
Hops: 1 oz. Saaz (Czech) (3.4% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Saaz (US) (4.4% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Saaz (Czech) (3.4% AA, 20 min.)
1 oz. Saaz (US) (4.4% AA, 20 min.)
Yeast: WLP 060 from starter
Log: Brewed 12/09. OG 1.052 for 6 gallons. Air lock activity with in 8hrs.
