Southwest Fest Amber Ale

This was brewed for a local festival. Hoppy with a slight nutty roasty character. Excellent

Type: All grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
16 HCU (~10 SRM)
Bitterness: 44 IBU
OG: 1.052 FG: 1.008
Alcohol: 5.7% v/v (4.5% w/w)
Water: Burtonized water
Grain: 8 lb. American 2-row
1 lb. American crystal 40L
.5 lb. Special Roast
Mash: 75% efficiency
Mash strike temp=150F for 1 hour. Vorlauf for 10 minutes. Sparged to yield 6.5 gallons of wort.
Boil: 90 minutes SG 1.040 6.5 gallons
Irish moss for 20 minutes
Hops: 1 oz. Cascade (9.4% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 15 min.)
1 oz. Fuggles (aroma)
Yeast: Whitelabs California ale ( 1/2 gallon starter slurry)
Log: Fermented for 4 days at 70F. Racked and conditioned additional week at 65F.
Carbonation: Primed with 5/8 cup corn sugar for medium carbonation levels.
Tasting: Will taste tomorrow. Tasted during secondary. Had a nutty malt flavor and hoppy finish. Can't wait for the finished product.
