India Pale Ale

I won a bunch of Chinook hops at TRUB competition
So this was made to use them up.

Brewer: John Tossberg & Bernie Ball Email: -
Beer: India Pale Ale Style: India Pale Ale
Type: All grain Size: 24 gallons
Color:
17 HCU (~10 SRM)
Bitterness: 50 IBU
OG: 1.060 FG: 1.008
Alcohol: 6.7% v/v (5.3% w/w)
Water: Approx 1 Tbsp. CaCO4 to strike/spare H2O.
Grain: 1 lb. American 2-row
38 lb. British pale
3 lb. Wheat malt
5 lb. American crystal 60L
Mash: 82% efficiency
This is about as much grain, that can be put in my mash tun.
Dough in, thick mash temp hit approx. 62°C. Hold approx
20 min. Add more H20 temp 67°C. Hold for approx 40 min.
recirculate 3 gal. start sparge. Efficiency was down a
bit, maybe cause we didn' get temp higher. (70°C).
Boil: 60 min minutes SG 1.056 26 gallons
3 whirl flocs per kettle. at 20 min. run through
wort chiller.
Hops: 4 oz. Chinook (13.1% AA, 60 min.)
2 oz. Chinook (13.1% AA, 30 min.)
2 oz. Cascade (aroma)
Yeast: Wyeast 1098, british ale. 2 1400ml cultures split
between 4 carboys. Did not see active fermentation
til 36 hours after pitching. Wort may ave been a
bit warm.
