Old Weirdo

This is my own all grain version of a recipe I found on Northern Brewer's web site. I made it as an extract several times when I first started brewing and loved it. Northern Brewer has stopped selling their kit for this beer, probably because black treacle is somewhat hard to find in the states.

Type: All grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
41 HCU (~19 SRM)
Bitterness: 52 IBU
OG: 1.072 FG: 1.010
Alcohol: 8.0% v/v (6.3% w/w)
Grain: 9 lb. Maris Otter (4 °L)
1.5 lb. Wheat malt (2 °L)
12 oz. Dark Crystal (75 °L)
4 oz. Roasted Malt (40 °L)
Mash: 75% efficiency
122° for 20 min
157° for 60 min
mash out (or not, I often don't)
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.063 5.75 gallons
1 lb. Black Treacle
Add the black treacle during the last few minutes of the boil to pasturize it.
Hops: 1 oz. Northern Brewer (8.5% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Kent Goldings (5% AA, 45 min.)
1 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 30 min.)
1 oz. Fuggles (aroma)
Yeast: European Ale Yeast: Either Wyeast #1338 or White Labs #WLP011
