Beans Big Brown Ale

This recipe is a modification of Osage Bluff Brown by Ron Davis.

Type: Extract w/grain Size: 6.0 gallons
Color:
53 HCU (~23 SRM)
Bitterness: 19 IBU
OG: 1.078 FG: 1.018
Alcohol: 7.8% v/v (6.1% w/w)
Water: Good old Longmont, CO tap water.
Grain: 0.5 lb. American Crystal 15L
0.5 lb. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
0.5 lb. American Chocolate
Steep: Steeped grains, in grain bag, at 160° for 45 minutes, rinsed with 1 gallon of 160° water.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.134 3.5 gallons
4.0 lb. Pale LME
6.0 lb. Amber LME
Added 1 tsp Irish Moss at 30 minutes.
Hops: 1.1 oz. Amarillo (8.1% AA, 60 min.)
1.0 oz. Cascade (6.6% AA, 15 min.)
0.5 oz. Cascade (6.6% AA, 5 min.)
0.5 oz. Cascade (aroma)
Yeast: 11 gr Danstar Nottingham Ale Yeast at 70 degrees.
Log: Fermentation in 6.5 gallon glass carboy for 7 days at ~ 68 degrees.
Rack to Secondary, glass carboy, at ~ 68 degrees until final gravity is 1.018.
Carbonation: Force carbonate at 28 lbs. for 2 days.
Tasting: Well, we'll see.
