American Brown Ale

An American Brown Ale. Very simple and successful recipe.

Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
52 HCU (~22 SRM)
Bitterness: 26 IBU
OG: 1.050 FG: 1.018
Alcohol: 4.1% v/v (3.2% w/w)
Grain: 4 oz. American chocolate
4 oz. British black patent
Steep: Steep grains at 160 degrees for 15 minutes.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.050 5 gallons
6.6 lb. Light malt extract
Use Irish Moss during the last 5 minutes for clarity.
Hops: 1 oz. Fuggles (4.2% AA, 60 min.)
.5 oz. Fuggles (4.2% AA, 30 min.)
.5 oz. Fuggles (4.2% AA, 15 min.)
Yeast: Wyeast American Ale Yeast.
Log: Ferment at Room temperature for 2 weeks. No racking. Bottle after two weeks because we have to have this ready for Xmas Party.
Carbonation: 2.0 volumes Corn Sugar: 2.97 oz. for 4.8 gallons @ 69°F
Used 3 oz. Corn Sugar for priming.
