My Mild

Brewer: Ben Van Dusen Email: vandusen@uoregon.edu
Beer: My Mild Style: English Dark Mild
Type: All grain Size: 6.0 gallons
Color:
46 HCU (~21 SRM)
Bitterness: 25 IBU
OG: 1.039 FG: 1.010
Alcohol: 3.7% v/v (2.9% w/w)
Grain: 7 lb. American 2-row
8 oz. American crystal 40L
4 oz. American black patent
4 oz. British chocolate
Mash: 80% efficiency
I mash at a high temp of 160 so that I will have less fermentable sugars and a higher FG.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.031 7.5 gallons
Hops: 1.5 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 60 min.)
.5 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 2 min.)
Yeast: Using a California Ale Yeast slurry from my last IPA.
Tasting: I've made this before with a boil at an even higher temperature but it hurt my mash conversion and I ended up with a 65% utilization. This time I got in the upper 70s.
