PILSNER

Simple ingredients to get a northern German style lager.

Beer: PILSNER Style: -
Type: All grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
3 HCU (~3 SRM)
Bitterness: 35 IBU
OG: 1.055 FG: 1.010
Alcohol: 5.8% v/v (4.5% w/w)
Water: Soft tap water, filtered with Brita to remove chlorine.
Grain: 9 lb. German Pilsner
Mash: 80% efficiency
Add 9qts 130 deg water to get 122 deg - 30 min
Add 4.5 qts boiling water and heat to 150 deg - 15 min
Heat to 158 deg - 30 min
Heat to 168 deg and sparge with 170-180 deg water to get 6.5 gal runoff.
Boil: 75 minutes SG 1.042 6.5 gallons
1 tsp Irish moss last 15 min
Hops: .5 oz. Northern Brewer (8.5% AA, 60 min.)
1.0 oz. Saaz (3.75% AA, 60 min.)
.5 oz. Saaz (3.75% AA, 15 min.)
Yeast: Wyeast pilsner yeast
2 stage - Primary at room temp
Secondary in cool (40-50) garage.
Carbonation: bottle with 3/4 cup corn sugar
