Kickoff Kolsch

Just a Kolsch to drink at early Steeler season Tailgating

Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
5 HCU (~4 SRM)
Bitterness: 34 IBU
OG: 1.061 FG: 1.015
Alcohol: 6.0% v/v (4.7% w/w)
Water: Central Pennsylvania bottled Spring Water
Grain: 1 lb. 8 oz. British pale
1 lb. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
Steep: Put all grains in large grain bag in 2 gallons cold water. Bring water up to about 155°F. Steep for 50 minutes. Rinse with 1 gallon of 170°F water.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.051 6 gallons
6 lb. Light dry malt extract
1/4 oz Irish Moss powder added with about 15 minutes left in boil.
Hops: 1 oz. Perle (7.20% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Hallertauer (3.80% AA, 15 min.)
1 oz. Hallertauer (aroma)
Yeast: 1 Slant White Labs German Ale Kolsch Yeast (#WLP029)
Carbonation: Will be bottled with 5 oz. Corn Sugar for priming.
