Eclipse IPA

A full bodied, malty complex beer. Yeah I know it's too dark for an IPA, but boy is it good. It's not as dark as the color indicator would have you beleive.

Type: Partial mash Size: 4.75 gallons
Color:
45 HCU (~20 SRM)
Bitterness: 45 IBU
OG: 1.079 FG: 1.013
Alcohol: 8.6% v/v (6.7% w/w)
Water: Jackson County Well Water.
Grain: 5 lb. British pale
8 oz. Wheat malt
8 oz. Belgian CaraMunich
1 lb. Belgian CaraVienne
8 oz. Belgian Special B
1 lb. Flaked rye
Mash: 62% efficiency
Mash in grains using 3 gallons of 160 - 170° water for one hour-ish.
Sparged w/ 2 gallons 170° strike water. Added 1 oz. fuggles to the kettle for first wort hopping (If you are not first wort hopping, you should be). Mixed in extract and brought kettle to full rolling boil.

Boil: 75 minutes SG 1.084 4.5 gallons
5 lb. Light malt extract
Added 1 heaping tablespoon Irish Moss @ 30 minutes.
Hops: 1 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Northern Brewer (7.5% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 45 min.)
1 oz. Fuggles (aroma)
Yeast: One vial of White Labs Burton Ale Yeast
