Harpoon Winter Clone

I emailed Harpoon, and they were nice enough to help me brew a clone of their Winter Warmer.

Brewer: Lastcall Brewery Email: -
Beer: Harpoon Winter Clone Style: American Amber Ale
Type: All grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
21 HCU (~12 SRM)
Bitterness: 31 IBU
OG: 1.051 FG: 1.010
Alcohol: 5.3% v/v (4.2% w/w)
Grain: 8 lb. 8 oz. American 2-row
1 lb. 8 oz. American crystal 60L
Mash: 70% efficiency
The instructions Harpoon gave were:
85% 2 Row, 15% 60l crystal. Mash at 155 for 60 minutes. Boil 80 minutes Add Nugget or other high alpha hop five minutes into boil. Target IBU is 29. Add Nutmeg and Cinnimon to taste.
I used .5tsp of Nutmeg and 1 tsp of Cinnimon at end of boil. By the time it got to the secondary the spices had almost deminished quite a bit. I added another .5tsp nutmeg and .5tsp Cinnimon to the secondary.
Boil: 80 minutes SG 1.043 6 gallons
Nutmeg and Cinnimon.
Hops: .7 oz. Nugget (12% AA, 60 min.)
Yeast: WL California Ale
Log: 1 week in primary, 10 Days in secondary. Carbonated in bottle for three weeks.
Tasting: It came out very close. My spices are a little off. Next time I'll use less Nutmeg and more cinnimon. I think I'll just add them to the secondary, instead of the end of the boil. It's also a little darker than the Harpoon. It taste great, a big hit with all my friends.
