Summer Ale

This was designed to be a light bodied good drinking summer beer, with good head and light color and fairly low bitterness , something that some of our non-brewing friends will enjoy too!!!!!!

Type: Partial mash Size: 10 gallons
Color:
4 HCU (~4 SRM)
Bitterness: 16 IBU
OG: 1.040 FG: 1.008
Alcohol: 4.1% v/v (3.2% w/w)
Water: Water is from the well , boiled and treated with a little acid to lower the PH.
Grain: 4.17 lb. American 2-row
1.67 lb. Flaked corn
Mash: 75% efficiency
No sacchirification rest , add grains to cooler with water @ 159°
bringing to a strike temp of 146° , holding temp for about 60 -75 min.
until iodine test proves conversion is complete. Sparge at 170°
for about 45min. or until complete.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.080 5 gallons
5.50 lb. Light malt extract
0.83 lb. Wheat extract
Add 2 Tsp. of irish moss at 15min. from the end of the boil
Hops: 1.08 oz. Northern Brewer (8.5% AA, 60 min.)
0.87 oz. Saaz (3.75% AA, 15 min.)
Yeast: 1/2 gal starter using white labs california common 011
Log: Primary ferm.@70°for 1 week ,rack to Corny keg chill 12hrs and force carbonate.
Carbonation: 2.6 volumes Keg: 13.4 psi @ 40°F
