Darken My Ale

Great Dark Ale
A great full body Beer. I love it.

Brewer: Gerald Runke Email: jwrunke@jwrunke.com
URL: http://jwrunke.com/interests.htm
Beer: Darken My Ale Style: American Amber Ale
Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
56 HCU (~24 SRM)
Bitterness: 26 IBU
OG: 1.053 FG: 1.011
Alcohol: 5.4% v/v (4.3% w/w)
Water: One gallon jugs from the local market.
Grain: 4 oz. American chocolate
4 oz. American black patent
Steep: I put the grain in two gallons of cold water. I slowly rasied the heat
until it reached 160° . I then kept it at that temp for 10 minutes. I then rasied the heat to
170° and removed the pot off the heat and let steep for 30 minutes.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.133 2 gallons
3 lb. 8 oz. Light malt extract
3 lb. 8 oz. Amber malt extract
Hops: 1 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Northern Brewer (7.8% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Cascade (6.8% AA, 15 min.)
Yeast: I used liquid California Ale Yeast 001.
Log: After the steeping I removed the grain and then add the extract and
brought to a boil. I added the Fuggle and the Northern Brewer at the
begining of the boil. With 5 minutes left in the boil I added 1oz of
Cascade hops.
Tasting: This beer turned out great. If you like full body beers then this is the beer for you.
I made the beer a little dark than I wanted but that add to the flavor.
