Water: bottled spring water
Grain: .5 lb. American crystal 90L
.75 lb. Roasted barley
1 lb. Flaked oats
Steep: steep oats and grains in 2.5 gallons of 150 deg. water for 45 min. Sparge with one quart of 170 deg water.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.083 2.5 gallons
4 lb. Dark dry malt extract (Muntons)
Hops: 1 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 45 min.)
.5 oz. Kent Goldings (5% AA, 15 min.)
Yeast: Wyeast #1098 British Ale
Log: Let ferment for 1 week at 68 deg. Rack to secondary for 2 weeks at 55 deg. Prime with 1 cup of dark DME and bottle. Age for 3 weeks at 50 deg.
Tasting: Tasted before I bottled, it tasted great. After about 4 months aging, this stout is very true to style. The head is rich and creamy, it has a chocolate coffee aftertaste. Not overpowering just right. Anyone choosing to brew this is in for a real treat.
