September Storm Stout

Simple stout recipe using all English grains, hops, and yeast. Should turn out quite tasty.

Type: All grain Size: 5.5 gallons
Color:
120 HCU (~40 SRM)
Bitterness: 32 IBU
OG: 1.052 FG: 1.012
Alcohol: 5.2% v/v (4.1% w/w)
Water: Treat soft local water with gypsum and salt.
Grain: 10 lb. British pale
1 lb. British crystal 50-60L
10 oz. British black patent
8 oz. Roasted barley
1 lb. Flaked barley
Mash: 60% efficiency
Single infusion mash grain and 4.25 gallons of water at 153° for 60 minutes. Batch sparge with 5.25 gallons of water at 183° for 168° mashout.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.041 7 gallons
Good rolling boil for 60 minutes with irish moss added at 15 minutes left.
Hops: 1.50 oz. Kent Goldings (5% AA, 60 min.)
0.50 oz. Kent Goldings (5% AA, 30 min.)
Yeast: Pitch slurry from 1 quart starter of Danstar London Ale dry yeast.
