Slater's Mild (Wheat Stout?)

Brewer: Setanta Email: setanta14@hotmail.com
Beer: Slater's Mild (Wheat Stout?) Style: English Dark Mild
Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5.5 gallons
Color:
52 HCU (~22 SRM)
Bitterness: 16 IBU
OG: 1.041 FG: 1.008
Alcohol: 4.3% v/v (3.3% w/w)
Water: 1/3 oz. Burton Water Salts
Grain: 9 oz. Roasted barley
Steep: Steep roasted barley for 30 minutes in 1 gallon of water at 170°, rinse with 1/2 gallon boiling water
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.065 3.5 gallons
3 lb. Light dry malt extract
2.2 lb. Wheat extract
Hops: 1 oz. Kent Goldings (5.7% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Kent Goldings (aroma)
Yeast: Wyeast 1084 Irish Ale
Carbonation: I use 2/3 cup brown sugar, it adds some unfermentables and a slight molasses flavor
Tasting: Came out very smooth with a substantial beige head that stood ~1/2" above the glass!!! The malt profile was pretty one-dimensional, so I'll add some crystal malt to future batches to round it out a little.
