This can be changed into a blackened porter by omitting the honey and reducing the hops to about 3 oz. (pellets).

Bitterness: 36 IBU
OG: 1.076 FG: 1.017
Alcohol: 7.6% v/v (6.0% w/w)
Grain: 1.25 lb. British Carastan 30-40L
0.875 lb. British chocolate
0.625 lb. British black patent
Steep: Crush grains and steep for 30 minutes in 150-degree water.
Add malt extract and honey prior to boiling point.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.152 2.5 gallons
6.6 lb. Plain English Dark malt extract syrup
2.375 lb. Buckwheat Honey (two 19-oz. bottles)
Add 1/4 tsp. Irish moss at 15 minutes remaining in boil.
Hops: 6 oz. Fuggles (4% AA, 60 min.)
Yeast: British Ale Yeast II #1335
Pitch @ 70 degrees.
Log: Atmospheric temperature 66-69 degrees.
In 2 weeks, or when fermentation is complete,
bottle with 2/3 cup corn sugar. Age at 65 degrees.
Carbonation: 2/3 cup corn sugar boiled in about 1-cup of water.
Tasting: Needs to age a few months.
