Minuteman Porter

This recipe is adapted from a kit purchased at Beer and Wine Hobby, Woburn, MA

Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
63 HCU (~25 SRM)
Bitterness: 38 IBU
OG: 1.049 FG: 1.010
Alcohol: 5.0% v/v (3.9% w/w)
Water: Used distilled water. Added 1 pkg of Burton Water salts at start of boil with light malt and hops after steeping the grains.
Grain: 8 oz. Belgian biscuit
8 oz. British crystal 50-60L
8 oz. British chocolate
Steep: Grains are placed in muslin bag and added to 2 gallons of cold water. The water is brought almost to a boil, heat turned off, and grains allowed to steep for 15 mintues.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.049 5 gallons
6 lb. Light malt extract
After steeping the grains, added 1 oz of Perle hops, Burton Water salt, and light malt and started heating to a rolling boil. After 40 minutes, added Irish moss and 0.5 oz of the Tetnanger hops. Added another 0.5 oz of Tetanger hops after 58 minutes of the boil.
Hops: 1 oz. Perle (8% AA, 60 min.)
0.5 oz. Tettnanger (4.5% AA, 30 min.)
0.5 oz. Tettnanger (4.5% AA, 15 min.)
Yeast: Created starter using Califonina Ale yeast.
