English IPA

This is a very nice down-the-middle English style IPA. Very earthy compared to American versions.

Brewer: ChriSto Email: -
Beer: English IPA Style: India Pale Ale
Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5 Imp. gal.
Color:
19 HCU (~11 SRM)
Bitterness: 50 IBU
OG: 1.061 FG: 1.014
Alcohol: 6.1% v/v (4.8% w/w)
Water: Savannah tap
Grain: 8 oz. American crystal 120L
Steep: Steep for 30 min. at 155° in 2.5 qts.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.076 4 Imp. gal.
8 lb. Light dry malt extract
Hop additions at times noted. Irish moss at 15 min.
Hops: 2 oz. Target (11% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Fuggles (aroma)
Yeast: WL London Ale. 1L starter @ 36 hours.
Log: Primary for 7 days. Secondary for 8 days. Temp. mid 70's.
Carbonation: 3/4 cup priming sugar.
Tasting: Bitter from the get go. Aroma, flavor and aftertaste. Definitely an earthy taste from Target/Fuggles hops versus citrus of an American-style IPA. Could probably have dry hopped in secondary with more Fuggles to get even more aroma. Has turned out to be quite quaffable. Another keeper.
