Type: Extract w/grain Size: 4.5 gallons
Color:
22 HCU (~12 SRM)
Bitterness: 25 IBU
OG: 1.056 FG: 1.019
Alcohol: 4.7% v/v (3.7% w/w)
Water: Use distilled drinking water.
Grain: 1 lb. American crystal 60L
Steep: Steep cracked grains in muslin bag for 55 minutes. Started at 140°, raised to 155° after 5 mins. Raised to 180° after five additional minutes and held there for remainder of steeping time.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.126 2 gallons
6 lb. 6 oz. Light malt extract
Hops: 1 oz. Northern Brewer (8.5% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 30 min.)
.5 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 10 min.)
.5 oz. Fuggles (aroma)
Yeast: English ale yeast.
Log: After boil the wort was cooled to 75° with 3 gallons of slighty frozen distilled water.
Carbonation: Add 94.4 grams of corn sugar @ 64°.
Tasting: Initial taste test during bottling (prior to carbonation) is VERY promising. Smooth, malty and very softly hopped. Next time will dry hop during secondary ferment to increase bitterness, however this ale is great just the way it is.
