Garlic 2001

Type: All grain Size: 5.5 gallons

11 HCU (~8 SRM)
Bitterness: 38 IBU
OG: 1.055 FG: 1.016
Alcohol: 5.0% v/v (3.9% w/w)
Grain: 9 lb. British pale
1 lb. American crystal 40L
Mash: 80% efficiency
120 degrees F for 15 min by addition of 130 degree water. Added 165 degreee water to bring to 145. 15% decoction pulled and brought to boil. Added back to bring temp to 154 degrees. Mashed for 45 more mins.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.043 7.0 gallons
Yes Garlic was used. Ed C. gave me the base recipe. He claimed that it turned out pretty damn good. I took some artistic license with his recipe. 5 crushed cloves of garlic were added as the wort was brought to a boil. Skimmed off with the foam as the boil started. 15 mins before the end of the boil 5 heads, yes heads!, of roasted garlic were added with the irish moss.
Hops: 1 oz. Kent Goldings (5.7% AA, 60 min.)
.25 oz. Challenger (7.3% AA, 60 min.)
.5 oz. Fuggles (4.5% AA, 30 min.)
.5 oz. Fuggles (4.5% AA, 15 min.)
Yeast: White labs British ale yeast were used. I hope they like garlic!!
