Griffin's Irish Ale

One of my favorite summer brews. Mighty tasty when served ice cold on a hot day.

Brewer: Tom Griffin Email: -
Beer: Griffin's Irish Ale Style: Strong Scotch Ale
Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
13 HCU (~9 SRM)
Bitterness: 28 IBU
OG: 1.074 FG: 1.020
Alcohol: 7.0% v/v (5.5% w/w)
Water: Add 2 teaspoons of gypsum at start of boil.
Grain: 8 oz. American crystal 20L
4 oz. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
Steep: Steep grain at 170F for 30 minutes.
Boil: 90 minutes SG 1.062 6 gallons
8 lb. Light dry malt extract
Add 2 pounds DME to water and boil while grain is steeping. Add steeped water to boil along with Nugget hops at 60 minutes. After final hop addition at 15 minutes, add a Whirlflock tablet and remainder of DME.
Hops: 1/2 oz. Nugget (12% AA, 60 min.)
1/2 oz. Willamette (5% AA, 30 min.)
1/2 oz. Willamette (5% AA, 15 min.)
Yeast: Wyeast Irish Ale
