Nugget American Pale Ale

An all-Nugget American Pale Ale which was served at my firstborn's baby shower... brew date: 4/1/10. An excellent brew -- perhaps a tad more crystal malt (up it from 10% to 12%) and a little more Vienna malt (say maybe 2 lbs, with 1 lb less 2-row) and this would be a perfect beer.

Brewer: Matthew R. Email: mathstew@gmail.com
Beer: Nugget American Pale Ale Style: American Pale Ale
Type: All grain Size: 5.5 gallons
Color:
13 HCU (~9 SRM)
Bitterness: 53 IBU
OG: 1.050 FG: 1.013
Alcohol: 4.8% v/v (3.8% w/w)
Water: R.O. water with 1/2 tsp gypsum added to mash.
Grain: 8 lb. American 2-row
3 oz. Wheat malt
1 lb. German Vienna
14 oz. American crystal 60L
Mash: 75% efficiency
75 minutes at 150*F, 10 minute mash out at 168*F.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.037 7.5 gallons
1/2 Wirfloc tab added 5 minutes prior to flameout, 1/2 tsp Wyeast yeast nutrient added 5 minutes prior to flameout.
Hops: .33 oz. Nugget (pellets) (13% AA, 60 min.)
.5 oz. Nugget (pellets) (13% AA, 15 min.)
.75 oz. Nugget (pellets) (13% AA, 10 min.)
1 oz. Nugget (pellets) (13% AA, 5 min.)
.5 oz. Nugget (pellets) (aroma)
Yeast: One packet of US05, rehydrated.
Log: "Aroma" hop addition is a seven day dry hop.
Carbonation: Keg and force carbonate.
Tasting: Excellent flavor. Hoppy but smooth, mellow bitterness. Nugget can function as a stand alone hop, but its bitterness was its shining quality. Another hop variety or two mixed into the late additions would make this recipe worthy of 25 gallon batches.
