Water: Bottled spring water purchased at Wal-Mart. Source: Roaring Spring Water Co, Roaring Spring PA. No modification.
Grain: 13 lb. 10 oz. British pale
0 lb. 14 oz. American crystal 60L
0 lb. 8 oz. Flaked wheat
Mash: 66% efficiency
Water-Cooler mash tun with stainless steel false bottom. Dough-in at 166°, mash at 149° for 90 minutes.
Did not open mash tun to stir. Continuous sparge.
5 gallon mash tun limited efficiency, the amount of water in the mash was less than ideal. Calculated efficiency was 66%.
Boil: 90 minutes SG 1.053 7 gallons
Forgot to include Irish Moss with 15 minute hops.
Cooled using immersion cooler. Cooled quickly due to outside temps near 32 degrees.
Whole leaf hops clogged spout in kettle. Tried to clear it and most certainly broke sterility of the wort. Ended up ladling into the carboy and pitching immediately.
Hops: 2 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 90 min.)
.5 oz. Styrian Goldings (5.5% AA, 90 min.)
1 oz. Styrian Goldings (5.5% AA, 15 min.)
.5 oz. Cascade (6% AA, 1 min.)
.5 oz. Styrian Goldings (5.5% AA, 1 min.)
.5 oz. Cascade (aroma)
Yeast: Ringwood Ale, Wyeast 1187. No starter, pitched 2 activator packets.
Log: Brew Date: Sat 13FEB.
Fermentation: temp 68-70 degrees. visible CO2 production within 4 hours, active fermentation at 12 hours.
Dry hop: 0.5 ounce of cascade on day 6, 19FEB.
