Bitterness: 26 IBU
OG: 1.045 FG: 1.014
Alcohol: 4.0% v/v (3.1% w/w)
Water: add 1/4 tsp chalk
Grain: 4 oz. American chocolate
4 oz. American black patent
8 oz. Roasted barley
Steep: 30 min at 150F
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.045 5 gallons
3.3 lb. Dark malt extract - John Bull
2 lb. Light dry malt extract
IM at 15
Hops: 1 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 15 min.)
Yeast: WL002
Log: 10 days primary at 68F.
10 days secondary at 68F.
Carbonation: medium carbonation
Tasting: Sometimes forget how simple an EG batch is - especially for a stout. Nice roasty flavor from the barley. Coffee and chocolate are subdued. Not overhopped, letting roasted grains provide the bitterness.
