P-P-Power Ale!

American interpretation of a classic English ESB.

This is the first beer brewed by the Zymurgy class at Pumping Station:One in Chicago.

Type: All grain Size: 5.5 gallons
Color:
22 HCU (~12 SRM)
Bitterness: 51 IBU
OG: 1.060 FG: 1.013
Alcohol: 6.1% v/v (4.8% w/w)
Water: Boil water for 15 minutes before use

Use pH 5.2 to achieve mash pH
Grain: 11 lb. British pale
1 lb. British crystal malt, 50-60L
.5 lb. Belgian biscuit malt
.05 lb. Roasted barley
Mash: 70% efficiency
Single infusion mash for 90 minutes @ 150°F
Boil: 90 minutes SG 1.051 6.5 gallons
After 30 minutes of boiling, add Columbus pellets

After 75 minutes (15 minutes before end of boil), add .5 oz Styrian Goldings, .25 oz Fuggles, .25 oz Cascades and 1/2 tsp Irish moss

At end of boil, add .5 oz Fuggles and .5 oz Cascades
Hops: 1 oz. Columbus pellets (14.2% AA, 60 min.)
0.5 oz. Styrian Goldings pellets (1.9% AA, 15 min.)
0.25 oz. Fuggle plug (4.9% AA, 15 min.)
0.25 oz. Cascade plug (8.5% AA, 15 min.)
.5 oz. Fuggle plug (aroma)
.5 oz. Cascade plug (aroma)
Yeast: Wyeast #1098 British Ale

Ferment @ 65-68°F
