Recession Red

Not your typical Red Ale. Full body with just enough hop follow through.

18 HCU (~11 SRM)
Bitterness: 43 IBU
OG: 1.063 FG: 1.012
Alcohol: 6.5% v/v (5.1% w/w)
Water: Tacoma water - nothing added, nothing needed
Grain: 9 lb. American 2-row
.5 lb. American Munich
1 lb. American crystal 40L
1 lb. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
.05 lb. American black patent
Mash: 75% efficiency
60 minute infusion mash at 154°. Mash out up to 165°.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.052 6 gallons
Hops: 1 oz. Centennial (10.5% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Mt. Hood (4.5% AA, 15 min.)
.25 oz. Cascade (aroma)
1 oz. Crystal (aroma)
Yeast: English Ale Yeast from starter (prepared 24 hours in advance)
Log: Typical brew / fermentation cycle times. This is a great recipe and I will be making it again once the first keg is empty.
Carbonation: Carbonate with 12 lbs CO2, then serve with beer gas.
Tasting: This is a great tasting beer. I don't want to call it a Scottish Ale because the body is much smoother than your typical Scottish. This ale is a true crowd pleaser as it offers something for everyone.
