Black Strap Ale

Type: Extract w/grain Size: 2 gallons
Color:
125 HCU (~41 SRM)
Bitterness: 39 IBU
OG: 1.070 FG: 1.006
Alcohol: 8.2% v/v (6.5% w/w)
Grain: 115g American black patent
Steep: Steep grains at 155°F for 20 minutes.
Boil: 30 minutes SG 1.093 1.5 gallons
1.35kg Dark malt extract
150g Brown sugar
150g Molasses
Add extract, molasses and brown sugar when temperature reaches 185°F and sustain a rolling boil for 2-3 minutes.
Hops: 20g Northern Brewer (8.5% AA, 60 min.)
Yeast: Munton Dry
Log: Brewed 3/08/09: Total brew time: 1 hour 50 minutes
Bottled 3/15/09
Based on my refractometer reading on my OG = 1.087 and my FG = 1.023, I inserted those numbers into brew calculator and it said that my abv is 9.1%; however, if I use the formula (OG-FG)*131 = 8.4%.
Carbonation: 1.9 volumes Cane Sugar: 26.3g for 2 gallons @ 60°F
1-1/2 tsp of granular sugar per 22 oz bottles.
