Brewer: joe126 Email: joe126@hotmail.com
Beer: Exploding Sausage Beer Style: Belgian Tripel
Type: All grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
9 HCU (~7 SRM)
Bitterness: 55 IBU
OG: 1.086 FG: 1.012
Alcohol: 9.5% v/v (7.5% w/w)
Grain: 14 lb. 6 oz. Belgian pale
14 oz. Belgian Pilsner
1 lb. 4 oz. Flaked oats
Mash: 67% efficiency
Mashed at 150 F for 1.5 hours and sparged at 155 F for half an hour. German Acidualted Malt was also added (5 oz).
Boil: 80 minutes SG 1.071 6 gallons
8 oz. Belgian candi sugar
Added 1 oz dried mugwort at 60 minutes, .5 oz of sweet gale at 45 minutes and .5 oz cardamom at 30 minutes. For hops the Saaz is actually Sterling and the Cascade is actually Amarillo.
Hops: 1 oz. Centennial (9.1% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Cascade (8% AA, 45 min.)
1 oz. Saaz (3.5% AA, 30 min.)
Yeast: White Labs WLP 570. Made a 4 cups starter the previous day.
Tasting: This came out terribly. Next time I'll cut out the mugwort entirely and reduce the cardamom a little. The hops and malt balance is good and it's hard to tell that it is almost 10% ABV.
